As if! is a pleasure to greet you through these lines, now is time to speak of Nayarit, one of America's most exciting for its culture, landscapes and other attractions that personally, I have always wanted to discover.
If you enjoy nature tourism or culture rooted in ancient traditions, today I am going to recommend Nayarita visit a beautiful island where time stopped. Mexcaltitán or cradle of the Mexicans, is a large island with its population in the middle of a beautiful lake.

The interesting thing is that this island believed to be the Old Aztlán or place of herons, yes, that island where our ancestors left the Aztecs to settle after the ancient Tenochtitlán and start the population of Mexico City.
Mexcaltitán
The name comes from the Nahuatl "mextli" or goddess of the moon also is the root of the word "Mexico" which means "navel of the moon" and that is why the island has a round shape, as a moon.
It is believed that this beautiful place where herons still abound, lived the ancestors of the Mexica, the Totonac is why near the island is an archaeological site with remains of this legendary culture.
The Mexicans, on his departure, left the San Pedro River to the waters of the Pacific, passing through the towns now known as Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Chapala, Michoacan, Guanajuato and Queretaro until they reached the exact spot where they found the signal marked by their gods to found the Aztec empire (the famous eagle eating the snake, symbol of our flag). It is also said to be established in Mexico, due to the similarity in water and islands had their cherished Aztlán.

In Mexcaltitán Island, you can stroll through its streets, visit the websites the little Museum of the Origin, in the main square is a beautiful church dedicated to San Pedro and San Pablo, in addition, it offers incredible sunsets and live in harmony with nature as the island is in the middle of the lake that feeds water from the sea salt and fresh waters of rivers and creeks.
not have cars and it seems that development was stopped with the passage of time. One of the main characteristics is its urban setting consists of 5 main roads which cross in the square at right angles, two parallel streets that run from north to south, two running east to west, forming the outline of a cat, and the fifth ring road linking the others. This whole street is known as Venice trip.
And if you wonder why it is called, it is because in the rainy months, this small island sinks 500m by the San Pedro river flow. Thus, the streets become canals and both population and visitors tour the city in the canoes known as pangas.
is why the population to prevent the water target, has high inputs of their homes and sidewalks.

Unfortunately this area rich in vegetation, flora and fauna has not been enacted as a national park or protected area, however, if the island was declared a zone of historical monuments in 1986 due to the stroke of the alleys, typical of buildings and establishment of the customs and traditions. Since 2001 also the island and is part of the Magical Towns that promotes the Ministry of Tourism.
Life in Mexcaltitán is very quiet, the doors of the houses are permanently open, and the old portals to pull their rocking chairs talking and watching the afternoon, in contrast to the hubbub of children and the smell of bread freshly made, are a treat to the senses.
all look happy maybe because he just fishing live shrimp or perhaps because the tropical climate, or the sky so blue, or a combination of seawater and river, perhaps not there is traffic, but rich vegetation and abundant seafood. It's very interesting to see people happy, willing to share with travelers their lifestyle and their legends.
Perhaps Mexcaltitán not the birthplace of the Aztecs as if they had lived there, there would be reason enough to migrate to this wonderful place.
Until next trip!
